Virginia Commonwealth University’s L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs will host Bicycle Urbanism Symposium II, September 28-29. The two-day conference will bring together practitioners, academics, policy makers and advocates from diverse backgrounds including urban design, planning, transportation, engineering, landscape architecture and public policy.

This year’s theme is “Mainstreaming Bicycling.” Session tracks will focus on the economic and health benefits of bicycling, innovative bicycling plans and planning, bicycling promotion and advocacy and the design elements needed to create the bicycle city.

The symposium keynote address will be given by include Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), founder and chairman of the Congressional Bike Caucus, and Ralph Buehler, Ph.D., associate professor of urban affairs and planning at Virginia Tech’s Alexandria Center.

In addition to the sessions at VCU, participants will have the option of taking field trips (on bike – of course!) to see and explore Richmond’s bike infrastructure. Learn more or register for the event.
