Gooden Invited to International Conference
Susan T. Gooden, Ph.D., professor of public administration and policy, has been invited to attend an international conference in the Netherlands cosponsored by the United Nations that celebrates public servants’ contributions to sustainable development.
Gooden, immediate past president of the American Society for Public Administration, will attend the 2017 UN Public Service Forum, “The Future is Now—Accelerating Public Service Innovation for Agenda 2030.” Conference attendance is by invitation only.
The conference will take place in The Hague June 22-23 and is organized by the Netherlands and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs in honor of United Nations Public Service Day.
The forum will provide a platform for decision makers to share strategies that have worked, innovative approaches and lessons learned on how to rally public service to realize the sustainable development goals of Agenda 2030. According to the UN, “these goals seek to mobilize countries to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.”
Gooden was one of 550 public administration experts, government officials, and private and public sector representatives from across the world invited to attend the conference.
“It is an honor to be invited, and I look forward to representing the Wilder School and VCU at this international conference,” Gooden said. “It will provide an extraordinary opportunity to meet some of the world’s leading public administrators as we work to identify future trends and actions for this important initiative.”
