Piper to discuss Protecting the Integrity of the Vote

Join the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs for a Lunch and Learn Zoom presentation featuring Chris Piper (B.A.’01/H&S), commissioner of the Virginia Department of Elections. In his presentation “Protecting the Integrity of the Vote,” he will discuss the Nov. 3 election, voter advocacy and how the agency is increasing access to voting in the state.
Wilder School Dean Susan Gooden, Ph.D., will make opening remarks. Shajuana Isom-Payne (B.A.’98/H&S; M.Ed.’03/E), assistant dean of student success, will moderate. Be ready with your questions for the audience Q&A portion. The session will be recorded and shared later through email and the Wilder School YouTube channel.

About the Speaker
Christopher E. “Chris” Piper was appointed commissioner of the Virginia Department of Elections in January 2018. After earning a bachelor’s degree in political science from Virginia Commonwealth University, Piper began his career in elections and government ethics as a manager of a large trade association’s federal PAC. He later led the Virginia State Board of Elections Campaign Finance division.
He then worked as a political compliance consultant for a multinational law firm, then returned to the state Board of Elections to manage the Election Services Division before becoming the commonwealth’s first executive director of the Virginia Conflict of Interests and Ethics Advisory Council.
With a focus on election security and uniform application of laws, regulations and policies, he is dedicated to protecting the integrity of the commonwealth’s elections.
