Virginia’s COVID-19 Vaccine Planning and Administration Response

Join the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs for a Lunch and Learn Zoom presentation about the state of Virginia’s COVID-19 vaccine campaign and administration response, featuring M. Norman Oliver, M.D., M.A., commissioner for the Virginia Department of Health.

James Burke, Ph.D., director of the Wilder School Performance Management Group, will moderate the session, and Wilder School Dean Susan Gooden, Ph.D., will make opening remarks. The event will be recorded and shared through email and the Wilder School YouTube channel.

About the Speaker

M. Norman Oliver, M.D., M.A., is the Virginia commissioner of health. Prior to this appointment, Oliver served as the deputy commissioner for population health at the Virginia Department of Health. Previously, he was the Walter M. Seward Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Oliver worked with others in the health department, other state agencies and health care systems across the state to improve the health and well-being of all citizens of the commonwealth. He is committed to a cross-agency and multisector approach to implementing population health initiatives.

Oliver attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where he also earned a master’s degree in medical anthropology. He trained in family medicine at Case, then practiced broad-spectrum family medicine in rural Alaska for two years before joining UVA in 1998.
