Wilder School graduate returns for book talk
Xavier Guadalupe-Diaz, Ph.D., one of the first graduates of the Wilder School’s Certificate in Gender Violence Intervention program, will return to talk about his new book Transgressed: Intimate Partner Violence in Transgender Lives with New York University Press.
Guadalupe-Diaz is an Alum of Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor and master’s degree in Sociology. He is currently an Associate Professor of Sociology and Criminology at Framingham State University in Massachusetts.
“I taught Xavier when he was an undergraduate and graduate student studying sociology at VCU, and he was one of the first students to earn our Certificate in Gender Violence Intervention. From VCU, he went on to earn a PhD in sociology from the University of Central Florida and immediately landed a faculty position at Framingham State University,” shared Sarah Jane Brubaker, Ph.D., Director of the Certificate in Gender Violence Intervention program.
“Xavier recently earned tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor. His groundbreaking book is one of the first to address the problem of gender violence as it affects the transgender community. We are thrilled to welcome Xavier back home and to learn more about his work and expertise.”
The focus of Guadalupe-Diaz’s book is relevant to major topics at the cultural forefront in our current society as well as issues of diversity and inclusion more broadly. He plans to share his research and engage in a dialogue with both among VCU students, faculty and staff, and the wider Richmond community.
The event on February 26 is sponsored by VCU Libraries and will take place on the third floor of Cabell Library in Lecture Hall 303 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
