Accomplishments

Sarah E. Raskin, Ph.D., MPH is an Associate Professor in the Urban and Regional Studies and Planning Program at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University, a member of the iCubed Oral Health Equity interdisciplinary research core, and a courtesy faculty member in the VCU School of Dentistry's Department of Dental Public Health and Policy. Cross-trained in medical anthropology, health services research, and public health, Dr. Raskin conducts mixed methods and community engaged research on dental safety net policy and practice in the U.S. through an intersectional lens, with an emphasis on the political and moral economies of oral health service delivery. Her research has been funded by the VCU Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research, National Science Foundation, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and published in all major dental journals including the Journal of the American Dental Association, JDR - Clinical and Translational Research, the Journal of Dental Education, and Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology. A 2023 recipient of the Wilder School award for Excellence in Service, 2020 recipient of the Wilder School award for Excellence in Mentoring, and 2015 recipient of the Society for Medical Anthropology’s Rudolf Virchow award for graduate student writing, she is co-President-elect of the Association for the Anthropology of Policy, a Legal Observer Coordinator with the Washington DC Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, and an ongoing collaborator on the Virginia Health Catalyst's Future of Public Oral Health working group.
