Gain hands-on experience conducting research through VCU’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. Full-time undergraduate students at least one academic year away from graduation are eligible.

UROP includes a $1,500 stipend and partnering with a Wilder School faculty mentor as you develop your own research project or participate in faculty-conducted research.

The program can lead to developing governmental reports, conference presentations or journal publications. It can also help you decide where to specialize within your discipline.

Examples of Wilder student research include:

• Examining Russia’s political evolution
• Evaluating the impact of the “Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count” project
• Investigating the challenges facing rural business owners
• Understanding evidenced-based practices within the correctional system
• Assisting with a historic assessment of women in Virginia politics

These projects represent just some of the many opportunities you'll have to conduct research across the many disciplines in the Wilder School.
