Support an endowed scholarship in honor of VCU alum Sesha Joi Moon, Ph.D.
Esteemed VCU alumna Sesha Joi Moon, Ph.D., is the Chief Diversity Officer for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Through a new endowed scholarship, Sesha Joi Moon, Ph.D. (B.A.’05;M.S.’08; Cert’09) and her family members Mr. August Moon, Ms. Enjoli Jaudon Moon, Mr. Jonah Ali Hodari, and Ms. Janice Pritchett-Moon — including fellow alum Michon Jaudon Johnson Moon Ph.D. (B.A.’95; M.P.A.’97; Ph.D.’11) — are giving back to VCU, the school that launched Moon’s career, by supporting a new generation of leaders.
Sesha Joi Moon, Ph.D., was one of the first graduates of the Department of African American Studies in VCU’s College of Humanities and Sciences. While at VCU, she served as president of the Black Caucus and vice president of the Eta Tau Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
After graduating from VCU, Moon returned to VCU to earn a master’s degree from the Wilder School and completed a Ph.D. in public administration at Old Dominion University, as well as pursued further education at Harvard University.
Moon serves as chief diversity officer at the U.S. House of Representatives and as executive director of The JXN Project, through which she and her sister Enjoli J. Moon are seeking to understand the role of the Jackson Ward neighborhood of Richmond in the evolution of the Black American experience.
This scholarship provides financial support to undergraduate and graduate students with demonstrated need from both the Wilder School and the College of Humanities & Sciences’ Department of African American Studies. Recipients must demonstrate how they are contributing to the legacy of marginalized students in the fields of African American studies, government and/or public affairs.
