Gooden Among Gubernatorial Appointments
Susan Gooden, Ph.D., professor of public administration and policy, has been appointed by Governor McAuliffe to the State Board for Community Colleges. Gooden was appointed to a four-year term on the 15-member board, which oversees the state’s community college system.
Two new additions to VCU’s Board of Visitors are also directly linked to the Wilder School.
Shantaram Talegaonkar, M.D., of North Chesterfield and a board-certified ophthalmologist, heads our campaign for the India Chair for Democracy and Civil Society.
Keith T. Parker, a 1993 MURP graduate, is the general manager and CEO of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, the nation’s ninth-largest transit system. Parker was honored last fall as an Alumni Star.
Appointed to Radford University's Board of Visitors was Jay A. Brown, Ph.D., of Henrico County, who's Richmond's director of budget and strategic planning. He earned his doctorate from the Wilder School.
“I speak personally with every person I appoint to serve our college and university system, and I ask each one to use his or her knowledge and experience to foster innovation at their institutions, to keep the burden of tuition as low as possible and to emphasize access and completion for every student,” McAuliffe said in a statement.
“Virginia has one of the best higher education systems on the globe and I am confident that these leaders will keep their schools moving forward as we work together to build a new Virginia economy.”
