Mission Possible: Eta Lamba Sigma Visits Washington
Fraternity members take part in the Spy in the City Challenge
During spring break, Maureen Moslow-Benway, a Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness instructor, accompanied 14 members of Eta Lambda Sigma on a two-day trip to Washington, D.C.
Eta Lamba Sigma, the nation’s first professional fraternity for homeland security and emergency preparedness, was established at VCU in 2006. Its mission is to enhance the educational and professional development of students through networking, practical experience and mentoring.
During their visit, the VCU contingent visited the U.S. Supreme Court, the Library of Congress and took a night hike around all the monuments. The following morning, the group visited the Smithsonian’s Air and Space museum before heading over to the International Spy Museum.
The group takes a break between visits.
After spending a couple of hours in the Spy Museum, the fraternity split into groups and took on “The Spy in the City Challenge,” a fun, urban scavenger hunt designed to foil an enemy spy and prevent a nuclear attack.
“It was quite the sight, seeing Wilder School students running all over parts of the city in order to be the first group to complete their mission,” Moslow-Benway said. “Thankfully, the missions of all of them were a success! Needless to say, ELS enjoyed numerous experiences in a mere 48 hours and felt the trip was a wonderful learning and bonding activity.”
