The Wilder School is partnering with the Virginia Commission on Youth and the Family Impact Institute at Purdue University to host a seminar focusing on the fostering futures legislation this Tues., May 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the state Capitol in House Room 3.

“Aging out of Foster Care: Fostering Futures into Adulthood,” will include a foster care panel moderated by Anne Holton, Virginia’s secretary of education. Also participating will be the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice and Sunny Shin, Ph.D., of the VCU School of Social Work.

“A central focus of the Wilder School is to convene people to examine issues that affect public policy, and the issue of how to treat youth who age out of foster care at 18 is an ongoing topic of discussion at the General Assembly,” said Robyn McDougle, Ph.D., faculty director of the Office of Public Policy Outreach and associate professor of Criminal Justice.

“We want to continue the conversation with policymakers and faculty experts about this critical issue, which has broad implications on social services, education and many other areas of government,” she said.

To attend, please RSVP rdmcdougle@vcu.edu by Fri., April 29.
